About the Course:
This course provides a rigorous overview of the fundamentals of behavior therapy. The behavioral approach is depicted as an information technology that operates in highly individualized ways and can be used to help children and families achieve their goals. Principles of classical and operant conditioning and observational learning are explained and applied to common clinical problems. The outcome research on behavioral interventions is summarized in a user-friendly fashion that provides therapists with guidance for treatment planning. The course presents step-by-step instructions for conducting exposure procedures, contingency contracting, relaxation training, and social skills training. There are clinical illustrations, numerous examples, and an emphasis on the nitty-gritty process of implementing these therapeutic methods with children, adolescents, and parents.
This course is based on chapter 2 of the book, Child and Adolescent Therapy: Science and Art, 2nd Edition created by Jeremy Shapiro in 2015.
