Hana Kuc is a Licensed Mental Heath counselor and a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor who has been working in the field for 13 years. In that time she has worked as a counselor, therapist, educator and director. Hana has specialized in working with clients on medication assisted treatment, who are in recovery from opiates, and are also diagnosed with a mental health disorder.

This course is recommended for behavioral/mental health professionals and students/interns who are seeking knowledge about motivational interviewing. This course is appropriate for a beginner level (student/intern) and/or early-career professionals and/or other professionals at any level of experience who are interested in learning the basics of motivational interviewing.

  1. Define motivational interviewing and identify the principles of motivational interviewing.

  2. Describe and discuss the phases of motivational interviewing and the counselor’s role in the process.

  3. Describe and discuss some of the techniques and methods of motivational interviewing, as well as the philosophical basis for these strategies.
