About the Course:
This course provides a clear, insightful, user-friendly explanation of the constructivist approach, specifically, solution-focused therapy and narrative therapy. Principles of postmodernist theory, with its emphasis on language and conversation as our means of constructing realities, are applied to the types of problems that people bring to therapists. The course presents step-by-step instruction in the techniques of the Miracle Question, finding non-obvious strengths, building on exceptions, possibility-laced acknowledgement, externalization of the problem, and various means of creating and revising personal narratives. There are clinical illustrations, numerous examples, and an emphasis on the nitty-gritty process of doing constructivist therapy with young clients.
This course is based on chapter 6 of the book, Child and Adolescent Therapy: Science and Art, 2nd Edition created by Jeremy Shapiro in 2015.
