About the Course:

Eating disorder researchers often struggle with low participation and retention rates in clinical trials, impacting our ability to extrapolate findings to broader populations. This article describes key barriers and motivators for research participation in a sample of patients with an eating disorder. Based upon these findings, we highlight important strategies that researchers should consider when designing future studies that include participants diagnosed with an eating disorder.

This course is recommended for mental health and eating disorder professionals who are interested in eating disordered patients an the research process. This course is intended for an intermediate to advanced level of participants’ knowledge.

  1. Examine the factors that increase the likelihood that patients with eating disorders will participate in research.

  2. Explore factors that prevent patients with eating disorders from participating in or continuing with the research process.

  3. Describe the unique preferences patients with eating disorders have when participating in research.
