Chapter 7 covers specific substance abuse treatment recommendations for female clients, as well as the research supporting the recommendations. This guide reviews gender-specific research and best practices, such as common patterns of initial use and specific treatment issues and strategies to utilize when working with women who use/abuse substances. Specific recommendations are provided to assist clinicians and administrators in developing and maintaining trauma-informed therapeutic healing programs designed to meet the specific needs of female clients.
