About the Course:
This course covers chapter 6 of the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT)/SAMHSA publication entitled Substance Abuse Treatment: Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP 51): Addressing the Specific Needs of Women. Chapter 6 covers substance abuse among specific population groups and settings. TIP 51 is an in-depth guide that assists providers in offering screening, assessment, and treatment to women living with substance use disorders. This guide reviews gender-specific research and best practices, such as common patterns of initial use and specific treatment issues and strategies to utilize when working with women who use/abuse substances. Specific recommendations are provided to assist clinicians and administrators in developing and maintaining trauma-informed therapeutic healing programs designed to meet the specific needs of female clients.
This course is based on the reading-based online, TIP 51 Substance Abuse Treatment: Addressing the Specific Needs of Women: Specific Population Group and Settings created by Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), part of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in 2015.
