This course examines the effect of sexual orientation and gender on alcohol use, using graduated frequency measures and drinking contexts. Binge drinking patterns were studied. Sexual identity was shown to impact where and how much alcohol was consumed.

Robert Coulter is an assistant professor in the Department of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences, Graduate School of Public Health, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA. He has done extensive research on substance use and violence inequities for sexual and gender minority youth and has been published in multiple peer reviewed journals.
Miesha Marzell, PhD, MSW
Miesha Marzell is an assistant professor in the Department of Community and Behavioral Health, College of Public Health, The University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA. Her research covers the etiology and prevention of high-risk substance use and improving mental health particularly among ethnic minority youth, college students,and athletic populations. Her work has been published in multiple peer reviewed journals.
Robert Saltz, PhD
Robert Saltz, is a Senior Research Scientist at the Prevention Research Center. Dr. Saltz’s work has centered on ways in which drinking contexts may influence the risk of subsequent injury or death. His work has been published in multiple peer reviewed journals.
L.A. Rankin is a social worker with experience in many different settings with a variety of clients. She has worked with dementia and Alzheimers patients, dual diagnosis MH/MR, in a battered women’s shelter, and a rape crisis center. She also has 11 years of experience as a child protective social worker, where she earned certificates in domestic abuse/family violence and substance abuse.
