About the Course:

Binge eating is prevalent among adolescents from varying socioeconomic backgrounds and is associated with numerous adverse outcomes. However, it remains unclear whether risk factors for binge eating vary by socioeconomic status (SES). The study on which this course is based explores the prevalence of several well-known risk factors for binge eating among a community-based sample of adolescents from Project EAT. Further, the study examines the extent to which the impact of these risk factors on subsequent binge eating differs by SES. It is essential for providers to be cognizant of risk factors and specific SES-related stressors that may differentially impact youth from diverse backgrounds.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, Differences in Risk Factors for Binge Eating by Socioeconomic Status in a Community-based Sample of Adolescents: Findings from Project EAT created by Caroline West, B.A., Andrea Goldschmidt, PhD, and Susan Mason, PhD in 2019.
