About the Course:

Psychotherapy has been proven to be an effective treatment for a variety of mood disorders, including depression and bipolar disorder. Evidence based therapies include such interventions as cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, and brief psychodynamic therapy. This article presents a broad overview of various psychotherapy treatments, their evidence, and a basic description of their theoretical and practical aspects.

Angelo Picardi is a psychologist and epidemiologist who works as an epidemiologist who works as a researcher at the National Institute of Health in Italy. He has authored more than 130 articles in peer reviewed international journals.

Dr. Henderson completed her PhD in clinical psychology at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda MD, and my internship at Wilford Hall Ambulatory Medical Center in San Antonio TX. She is am an integrative therapist who focuses on brief, positive, solutions-focused therapy and is experienced in treating a variety of mental health concerns— depression, anxiety, stress, grief, trauma, parenting concerns, and more. She is currently practicing in Alaska.

  1. Describe cognitive behavioral, interpersonal, and psychodynamic therapies in the treatment of depression.

  2. Discuss the use of psychotherapy and medication in the treatment of depression.

  3. Describe interpersonal and social rhythm therapy (IPSRT) and family focused treatment (FFT) in the treatment of bipolar disorder.

  4. Discuss the use of psychoeducation in the treatment of bipolar disorder.
