Recovery to Practice (RTP) training helps behavioral health and general healthcare practitioners improve delivery of recovery-oriented services, supports, and treatment.

Stephanie Autumn
Stephanie Autumn is the Executive Director of the American Indian Prison Project Working Group. She served as the project director for three Department of Justice funded Training & Technical Assistance Centers funded for tribal youth, and has provided training and technical assistance to over 135 tribal grantees. Ms. Autumn possesses 38 years of local, national, and international American Indian advocacy and policy work experience as well as working with tribal communities to address issues specific to tribal youth.
Alan Rabideau
Alan is a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians located in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan. For the past 22 years, Alan has been working with youth, parents and their families in many different capacities. He has served as a school-based intervention specialist, adolescent substance abuse counselor, program manager of a residential based youth treatment program and a specialized or treatment foster parent. Mr. Rabideau has provided training to court ordered parents, foster parents and treatment foster care parents, teachers and human services professionals. Currently Mr. Rabideau works as an independent consultant providing training and technical assistance to state, federal and tribal programs around children’s mental health initiatives, consumer, family and youth “driven” systems of care and positive behavioral support. Mr. Rabideau serves on the Board of Directors for the First Nations Behavioral Health Association and Human Services Research Institute in Cambridge Massachusetts

L.A. Rankin is a social worker with experience in many different settings with a variety of clients. She has worked with dementia and Alzheimers patients, dual diagnosis MH/MR, in a battered women’s shelter, and a rape crisis center. She also has 11 years of experience as a child protective social worker, where she earned certificates in domestic abuse/family violence and substance abuse.

Recommended For:

Counselors, marriage and family therapists, psychologists and social workers who work with Native Americans. This course is appropriate for all levels of knowledge. This content is at the beginner level.

Course Objectives:

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  1. Describe social, cultural, and historic factors which contribute to the over-representation of American Indians/Alaska Natives (AI/AN) people within the criminal justice system.
  2. Identify and discuss service gaps between criminal justice and behavioral health systems as experienced by AI/AN people.
  3. Identify and discuss interventions, resources, and tools that can be used by providers to mitigate service gaps related to the social, cultural, and historic factors experienced by AI/AN people.
