About the Course:

It is crucial to consider work with diverse populations of grieving children and adolescents who live in underserved urban settings through a lens of inclusivity, cultural awareness, and sensitivity. Participants will be invited to reflect on themselves and their work.

Presenters will discuss three case examples from their own work providing child and adolescent grief support in distinct and different underserved urban communities. Opportunities, challenges, and barriers related to providing quality bereavement services will be explored.

Participants will leave with references and concrete resources to strengthen their work with bereaved children and adolescents, including ways to overcome barriers and create authentic partnerships with individuals and communities.

This course is based on the reading-based online, Providing Culturally Responsive Grief Support to Children and Adolescents in Underserved Settings created by Colleen Shannon, LICSW and Nancy Frumer Styron, J.D., Psy.D in 2016.
