This article first summarizes the diagnostic criteria for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). It then examines the hypothesis that ADHD is a casual factor in the development of problematic alcohol consumption. Finally, it reviews some preliminary research suggesting that ADHD and its treatment may have important implications for the prevention and treatment of alcohol-related problems.
