40 credits are required and all 40 credits to be earned with online/distant learning courses from qualifying providers. CE-Credit.com is approved by NBCC (provider #5951) to offer CE courses for Counselors and MFTs.
3 credit hours must be in ethics and 4 must be in cultural competency.
There is also a one time requirement for 7 credit hours in pain management.
In order to complete the continuing education requirements, education/training experiences must be in one of the following approved program areas:
LPCs
- counseling theory
- social and cultural foundations
- the helping relationship
- group dynamics
- life-style and career development
- appraisal of individuals
- research and evaluation
- professional orientation and ethics
- professional supervision training
LMFTs
In addition to the areas listed immediately above, LMFTs need educational/training experience in the following areas:
- theories of marital and family therapy
- assessment and treatment in marital and family therapy
- ethics and professional studies
- research
- professional supervision training
Courses in personal growth, computers, administration, management, or other how-to-improve-your-business classes will NOT count.
