The Board of Alcohol and Drug Counselors (ADC) examines and certifies all eligible candidates for entry into the profession of alcohol and drug counseling. It recommends appropriate changes in the law to assure fairness and equality, conducts formal hearings and prosecutes by due process any violators of state law. Licensing fees fund the board’s work.

Although our courses are not automatically accepted by KBCADC in an official way, we have been informed by a Board member that, in practice, the KBCADC does accept NAADAC approved courses.

INITIAL: 300 classroom hours of board-approved curriculum that include -
- 6 hours in ethics training (must be interactive, face-to-face)
- 3 hours in domestic violence
- 2 hours in training in the transmission, control, treatment, and prevention of the human immunodeficiency virus
Hours must be specifically related to the 4 domains - 1. Screening assessment and engagement; 2. Treatment planning, collaboration, and referral; 3. Counseling; 4. Professional and ethical responsibilities; and the following requirements
RENEWAL: 60 CE hours earned during the 3-year renewal period
- At least 50% of CE’s are to be live, face-to-face presentations
- At least 3 of the 60 CE’s shall be in ethics
- At least 6 of the 60 CE’s shall be in suicide training, due once every 6 yrs
- At least 3 of the 60 CE’s shall be in supervisory practices for Board Approved Supervisors

Certified Clinical Supervisor
INITIAL: An applicant seeking certification as a certified clinical supervisor shall have thirty (30) classroom hours of classroom hours of board-approved curriculum with a minimum of five (5) classroom hours in each of the five (5) IC&RC clinical supervision domains -
- Counselor Development
- Professional and Ethical Standards
- Program Development and Quality Assurance
- Assessing Counselor Competencies and Performance
- Treatment Knowledge.
Additionally, the thirty (30) classroom hours shall include three (3) hours of board-sponsored training.
CLINICAL SUPERVISION COMPETENCY TRAINING HOURS: All training hours shall specifically related to the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the five clinical supervision counselor domains: 1. Counselor Development; 2. Professional and Ethical Standards; 3. Program Development and Quality Assurance; 4. Assessing Counselor Competencies and Performance; 5. Treatment Knowledge.
RENEWAL: A minimum of nine (9) CE hours shall be accrued by each person holding a CCS certificate during the 3 three (3) year licensure renewal period, at least three (3) hours of which shall be the board sponsored clinical supervision training. These hours may be included in the CE hours required for the CADC, LADC, or LCADC held by the CCS. At least 50% of the required CE hours shall be earned through live synchronous or face-to-face CE presentations.

Registered Alcohol and Drug Peer Support Specialist
INITIAL: An applicant seeking registration as an alcohol and drug peer support specialist shall complete forty (40) classroom hours, which shall include -
- Sixteen (16) hours of interactive training in ethics of which eight (8) hours shall consist of face-to-face ethics training;
- Three (3) hours of domestic violence training;
- Two (2) hours of training in transmission, control, treatment and prevention of the human immunodeficiency virus;
- Ten (10) hours of advocacy training;
- Ten (10) hours of training in mentoring and education; and
- Ten (10) hours of training in recovery support.
RENEWAL: A minimum of ten (10) CE hours each year shall be accrued by each person holding a registration as an alcohol and drug peer support specialist. At least 50% of the required CE hours shall be earned through live synchronous or face-to-face CE presentations.
