Kratom (Mitragyna Speciosa) and Its Implications for the Opioid Epidemic

About the Course

“Kratom” is a term used to describe a herbal substance that has opioid and stimulant-like effects. Kratom and kratom-based products are currently legal and available in many areas, throughout the United States. Kratom is understudied, and given the scarcity of controlled human studies, this present study focuses on kratom usage, user motivations, and outcomes after kratom exposure.

This course is based on the reading-based online article, Kratom (Mitragyna Speciosa): User Demographics, Use Patterns, and Implications for the Opioid Epidemic created by Albert Garcia-Romeu, Ph.D. and David J. Cox, Ph.D. in 2020.
