This article reviews a long-term follow-up cohort study of 324 transgender individuals who had undergone sex-reassignment surgery (SRS). This research study defines transsexualism; discusses current treatments; discusses methodology of the study; reviews all-cause mortality, psychiatric morbidity, and crime statistics following sex reassignment surgery; discusses the implications of this research; and makes recommendations.
This course is recommended for health care professionals, especially psychologists, counselors, social workers, and nurses who seek knowledge about transgender health, treatment, and related issues. It is appropriate for all levels of participants’ knowledge.
