About the Course:

“A Closer Look At Autism” is a must have resource for anyone who desires to have a greater understanding about the developmental disability of Autism. According to the DSM-IV-TR, Autism Spectrum Disorder ranges from mild to profoundly autistic, with diverse characteristics. This text provides the participant with a working understanding of the disability, how to manage the behavior, and how to prepare and improve the individual’s functioning for adolescence and adulthood. “A Closer Look at Autism” values the individual’s lifespan.

This course is recommended for health care professionals, especially psychologists, counselors, social workers, teachers, parents, and nurses who seek knowledge about child, adolescent, and adult developmental problems and associated autistic behavior and effective intervention strategies. It is appropriate at the introductory, intermediate, and advanced level of participants' knowledge.

Course Objectives:

After taking this course, you should be able to:

  1. Define Autism Spectrum Disorder as it relates to the DSM-IV.
  2. Identify developmental/behavioral markers to Autism.
  3. Demonstrate how to assist families with an autistic child and/or better manage their own autistic child.
