This publication presents clinical guidelines to help substance abuse treatment counselors address issues that arise from their clients’ status in the criminal justice system and to aid personnel in the criminal justice system in understanding and addressing the challenges of working with offenders with substance use disorders. This course covers Chapter 10 (adobe pages 237-257) of TIP 44 and addresses substance abuse treatment for offenders under community supervision.

Identify the treatment services that can reasonably be provided for people under community supervision, and describe common treatment issues.
Discuss treatment issues specific to people on parole and those specific to probationers, and explain strategies for improving system collaboration.
