As our country continues to take in refugees from around the world, mental health professionals and social service agencies have opportunities to help our new neighbors successfully adjust to life in America. Pipher challenges the relevance of western therapeutic approaches in working with refugees, encouraging us to become cultural brokers for our new citizens.

Mary Pipher, Ph.D., is a psychologist and author of several books, including Reviving Ophelia and Another Country. She is widely respected for her ability to weave qualitative research into stories that open our eyes and hearts to those whose experience may be different from our own.
