101019: Tobacco Addiction

About the Course:

Many recent research accomplishments are affording unique opportunities to discover, develop, and disseminate new treatments for tobacco addiction. This course is intended to review the latest scientific findings on tobacco addiction, including the harmful effects of tobacco use and best practices for preventing and treating tobacco addiction. Sources of additional information regarding tobacco addiction are also included.

Course Objectives:

1. Identify the extent and impact of tobacco use, as well as the ways in which tobacco delivers its effects.

2. Describe the addictive nature of nicotine and other chemicals found in tobacco.

3. Explain the medical consequences of tobacco use and abuse, including potential consequences during pregnancy.

4. Assess information presented on gender differences in tobacco smoking.

5. Become familiar with treatment options for tobacco addiction.
