This course presents findings of the NIMH’s Aging Research Workgroup regarding the mental health status and needs of older Americans. Topics include promising research areas in mental health and aging, and recommendations for improving mental health services for older Americans.

1. Describe recent research on mental health and older Americans.

2. Explain and critique specific NIMH proposals for improving services to older Americans.

3. Apply, when appropriate, the Aging Research Workgroup’s recommendations for addressing the mental health needs of older Americans.
