100582: Substance Abuse and Learning Disabilities: Apples and Oranges or Two Peas in a Pod?

About the Course:

Online Course

This White Paper examines the relationship between learning disabilities—which may affect up to 20 percent of school age children in America—and substance abuse. It finds that addressing learning disabilities early can prevent children from using alcohol, tobacco or illegal drugs and calls upon parents, teachers and pediatricians to step up efforts to identify and help these children. In addition to exploring the link between substance abuse and learning disabilities, the paper looks at the relationship between substance abuse and behavioral disorders such as Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Conduct Disorder.
